This is a valuable opportunity for anyone wishing to work in the cultural sector, and I would be grateful if you could forward it to your students, past and present, who may be interested in applying.
V&A DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE AND PERFORMANCE
The V&A Department of Theatre and Performance contains the UK’s National Collection of Performing Arts. The collections are huge, covering all areas of performance – from theatre, opera andballet, to music hall and musical theatre, circus, puppetry, and rock and pop.
Departmental activity is divided into curatorial work (based at Blythe House, Olympia) and
web-exhibitions, publications and web-content (based at V&A South Kensington). Exhibitions-based work includes the development of the permanent Theatre and Performance Galleries at the V&A and a broad programme of special exhibitions, both at the V&A and on tour. Other departmental activity includes public tours, publications and web content.
Voluntary Placements and Career Development Training: Exhibitions
The Exhibitions side of the Department offers a small number of volunteer and graduate placements, for career development, training and research. The next placements will be for the six month period from 1 April – 28 September 2012.
Volunteers assist with exhibition development and research, web content and publications. There is also the opportunity for training on strategic issues such as recording theatre on film, the evolution of ‘Theatreland’ in the West End, the economic contribution of the performing arts, etc. Work is varied and rewarding, and allows volunteers to contribute to the work of one of the UK’s flagship cultural institutions.
Volunteers will be offered some professional development training and experience (usually on
Mondays and Thursdays), both at the V&A and at other relevant institutions and organisations in London, such as theatres, museums and other arts institutions.
If you are interested in working with us, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with your expression of interest. This should take the form of a cover letter, CV, and two written references.
Deadline for applications is Friday 3 February 2012.
Please note that if you are specifically interested in curatorial expertise, you can contact email@example.com to enquire about placements in collections management operations.
