September deadline for the RIBA ICE McAslan Bursary in 2012.

 

This is a great opportunity for current students and recent graduates to apply for up to £7,500 to develop an original design project that will cultivate positive change to communities and environments.

 

The project should encompass the ethos of John McAslan + Partners:

·         To create architecture that improves people's lives;

·         To aim for an architecture which is rational and poetic, robust and delightful;

·         To tackle problems head on and think laterally;

·         To deconstruct a brief and let a design emerge from close examination of the pieces;

·         A belief that buildings should be underpinned by a powerful idea;

·         that the idea should be an intelligent and logical response to functionality and a sense of place.

In addition to providing up to £7,500 of funding, John McAslan + Partners will offer mentoring support to the bursary holder.

To be eligible to apply, applicants must be a student or have graduated in the last 5 years from an RIBA-validated school of architecture, or a JBM-accredited engineering course.

As part of the RIBA’s investment in supporting Architecture students and academics, we are now calling for applications to a number of scholarships

RIBA Education Fund – to support students in financial hardship at Parts 1 and 2 all year round.

RIBA Part 2 Scholarships – a new funding scheme to support students enrolled in, or about to start Part 2 in 2012/13.

RIBA Walter Parker Bursaries – to support graduates undertaking stage 1 and stage 2 professional experience

RIBA Aedas Stephen Williams Scholarship – one scholarship worth £5,000 to support one student for a year as part of an academic Masters course or Part 2 in the UK or abroad

RIBA Norman Foster Travelling Scholarship – a £6,000 scholarship to fund international research on topics and in locations of the student's choosing. Each school with RIBA-validated courses can submit one application only.

President’s Medals

We will launch the call for entries for the 2012 awards in a couple of months. Meanwhile, after being displayed for two months in London, the 2011 exhibition is now in Newcastle (until 15 February). Other locations confirmed for 2012 include Leicester and Liverpool (in the UK), Dublin (Ireland), and Suzhou (near Shanghai, China). Plans for Australia, Brazil, Romania, Turkey, Mexico, and UAE are also underway. For more information, visit the President’s Medals website.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious construction, engineering, management or information systems graduate to fast-track their career development as a Business Information Management Associate – in the construction sector. The project will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to deal with issues of information management, procurement and performance measurement with a small company in construction. The successful candidate will also be eligible to register for a research degree.  Your interests should include information management, the development of Key Performance Indicators (economic and social) and business system designs. The successful candidate will undertake a 2-year collaborative project between B4Box Limited, a leading construction company and the University of Salford. The RIBA Education Fund (www.architecture.com/educationfund) offers
maintenance grants and one-off payments to students of architecture
experiencing financial hardship. Students may apply for grants
throughout the 2010-11 academic year using an application form which is
available to download from the Fund's webpage. All Part 1 and Part 2
students who have been resident in the UK for at least 3 years prior to
the start of their first course in Architecture are eligible to apply.
However, first year Part 1 students will be awarded grants only in
exceptional circumstances as the Fund tends to support students who have
proven their commitment to the course and the profession.



The RIBA Walter Parker Bursary
rsaries/RIBAWalterParkerBursaries.aspx) exists to support students
undertaking Part 1 and Part 2 professional experience placements. In
2010-11 grants of up to ?1,000 are offered to assist students in
covering relocation, interview and other up-front expenses incurred at
the onset of their professional placements.

Part I Placement - Methodic Practice

PART 1 Placement

A small design focused practice based in London is in need of a part 1 architectural assistant to join their team. Methodic Practice is a creative multidiscipline practice working on a number of fascinating architectural and landscape projects from our office in Clapham. 

The part 1 assistant will be working on a range of exciting projects so you must have a creative eye for design and have strong presentation skills. It is essential that the part 1 architectural assistant is confident at using Vectorworks and Adobe Suite. It is beneficial if the part 1 assistant has an understanding of Sketchup and Mac computers but this is not essential. Position available July 2012.
